Job 4:13 -15: Can you explain those verses?

A: I don't see anything  puzzling about these verses:

     In the troubling thoughts of the dreams in the night when a deep sleep falls on men,

     a trembling gripped me – and a terror! – and made all my bones shake.

     Then a breath of air passes by my face; it makes the hair of my flesh stand up.

Eliphaz is talking about a dream or a nightmare he experienced in which an awesome spirit spoke to him. Or else a spirit actually appeared to him in the night and woke him from his sleep. One or the other.

Who was Job and why did God see a good man in him? 

A. Job is a fictional character because The Book of Job is a moral tale, not an historical account.  The purpose of the book is to teach us the purpose of life using the exchange between Job and this three friends.  The purpose of life, according to the book,  is to love God and have faith in him.

How did Paganism shape the Bible? 

A. You have to understand that, before Jesus' time, all religions were what modern Christianity would call Pagan.  In other words, all religions, except Judeo/Christianity were Pagan.  Contrary to what many Christian theologians may claim, Christianity did not emerge full-grown in the middle of the first century AD.  Rather, it evolved gradually from Eastern mysticism and Greek philosophy in the first few centuries before Jesus. All the stories in the New Testament were first told about Pagan gods and heroes. Even Jesus dying on the cross was first told, years earlier, in Pagan writings.  About 5 or 6 centuries later, the Christians "forgot" their origins and began making their modern claims of uniqueness. 

Is reincarnation taught in the Bible? 

A. You can find references to it. But we must remember that reincarnation was so universally accepted there was no need to explain it.  In the fifth or sixth century the Emperor Justinian declared that reincarnation was no longer a Christian doctrine and that anything in the Bible that might seem to refer to it, did not. He was upset because his wife Theodora has received a past-life reading that said she had been a prostitute in a past life.
